Four Favorite Food Sites

We all have our favorites whether they're about recipes, home decor, fashion, or hobbies. Here are four of my favorite food sites (Yeah, I'm all about alliterations).

David Lebovitz - If you haven't heard of David, where've you been? He's been a household name in the culinary world as a pastry chef, author, and blogger. Trained as a pastry chef in France and Belgium, David worked at Chez Panisse in Berkeley, California for twelve years. He now lives in Paris. His blog and newsletter are a  tasty mix of recipes, Paris food and travel tips, personal stories, delicious-looking photos, and more.

Three of Lebovitz's books are a must in my library: The Sweet Life in Paris (2009), My Paris Kitchen (2014), and his most recent, Drinking French (2020). Drinking French is a beautiful book with thirst-quenching photos, - and the book weighs a lot!

Food52 - If this online site could be brick and mortar, it would be the gathering place for everyone who believes the kitchen is at the heart of the home, and food is the center of a life well-lived. If they don't have it, then you don't need it. Food52 features recipes,  YouTube cooking channel, a podcast, and an online shop filled with cookware, appliances, dinnerware, table linens, home decor, outdoor, and pantry items such as chocolate, herbs, coffees, teas, and jams... To name a few. One of my favorite shop categories is the vintage one-of-a-kind items, especially those gathered from French flea markets.

Half-Baked Harvest - The person behind the blog, recipes, and online shop is Tieghan Gerard. She resides in a converted horse barn in Colorado. Her recipes are simple, family-friendly, and yet they look, gourmet. Tieghan started the food blog in 2012 and has since been featured on The Cooking Channel, Food Network, HGTV, and various printed publications. Her recipes are seasonal and fresh, and Tieghan's photos are vibrant and colorful and are staged without looking... Well... Staged with a drop of pesto on the counter and a runaway smudge of whipped cream over there. The photos make me hungry as they're beautifully "messy." Tieghan's online shop features her cookbooks and her favorite kitchen and home finds.

Planet Cheese - Janet Fletcher lives on a quiet street in Napa Valley, but life hasn't always been quiet. She discovered farmer's markets as a college student in Provence. Putting business school on hold, she enrolled in cooking school instead. The cooking school paid off as Janet spent two years as a cook at Alice Waters' acclaimed Chez Panisse. This 50+-year-old famed restaurant in Berkeley, CA shaped Janet's taste, cooking skills, and interest in seasonal produce and farm-to-table dining. Today she is a food journalist shining the spotlight on Northern California cuisine. Her online shop features her cookbooks and classes. Did I happen to mention her focus is cheese?
