Just Around the Countryside Corner, A Mini Adventure

Right. I know. I haven't been around lately. I call it "writer's block." It's my only excuse. And sometimes when that happens, one has to look for ways to clear the mind. Sometimes you have to get away from your house, your yard, that messy closet you keep meaning to organize...

Traveling may not be in the budget, or you may not want to deal with digging out your passport and dusting off the suitcase, but with a bit of research and a willingness to explore your surroundings, you can find small journeys that can change your attitude.

A trip to France wasn't possible last week for just a day. A quick 12-mile car ride, headed west on the country roads, to Blue Mountain Lavender Farm brought fresh air, lovely scenery, and freshly squeezed lavender lemonade

Located in the scenic countryside of the Walla Walla Valley, Blue Mountain Lavender Farm offers U-pick lavender, classes, a boutique featuring artisanal lavender gifts, plants for sale, and restful areas to enjoy the views. I marveled at the hummingbirds, yellow Monarchs, and bumble bees that dropped by to visit me.

From the lavender farm, it was a 10-mile drive east to the destination, Frog Hollow Farm, located on Frog Hollow Road. The family farm features family-grown plants, seasonal produce, and fresh-cut flowers.

Inside the red barn, there is a wonderful selection of fresh vegetables and fruit. Additionally, the store features shelves of artisanal food and gifts, as well as a refrigerated section offering
fresh food, treats, and cool drinks. The sun was warming things up, but I discovered a patio-like area to chill under an umbrella, once again enjoying the views and watching a tractor pass through the row crops.

The wonderful thing about these mini-adventures is that I came home refreshed, and I didn't have to unpack other than a few fresh apricots and a couple of lavender plants.
