Life Moves Pretty Fast

“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.”  ―  Ferris Bueller It's so true. Last week I was checking out my many rose bushes and wondering when they would bloom. They seem late this year.  A few days later I was outside chasing one of my little dogs. She is losing her hearing and sight, but I swear her little legs are running faster than ever. It's never been like her to run off. While I was running after her (or more like hobbling and limping) I noticed a couple of bushes with a few roses.  After I got the pup settled and inside, I went back out to cut a few roses. The bees even took pity on me and allowed me to cut some of their sage blossoms. I placed the pretty little vase from my Mother's collection by a few Paris mementos.

It's Corny, But We Love It: Valentine's Day

"Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories. We've already missed the spring."

It's Valentine's Day, so television (TCM and FX Retro) brings us all of the corny old movies. And don't get me wrong. I love them. So far, I have watched the three-hankie movie of "Love is a Splendid Thing" with Jennifer Jones and William Holden. I always had a crush on William Holden, even though he was old enough to be my father.

"An Affair to Remember" is currently playing with Deborah Kerr and Cary Grant. Great lines, people singing to each other in public (because that's what we do, right?), corny theme music by crooner Vic Damone, and lots of fake scenery with no AI.

I'm reminded of the movie "Sleepless in Seattle" when the character Suzy (Rita Wilson) describes the sentimental theater of An Affair to Remember. Later, we learn Wilson improvised the line, and if you're a fan of the old movie, we all know the scene...

"She's gonna meet him at the top of the Empire State Building. Only she got hit by a taxi... And then, she's too proud to tell him - that she's, uh...crippled. And he's too proud to find out why she doesn't come. But he comes to see her anyway... And he's very bitter. And you think that he's just gonna walk out the door - and never know why she's just lying there, you know, like on the couch with this blanket over her shriveled little legs..."

Happy Valentine's Day. Be your own Valentine. Eat chocolate. Pet furry little puppies and paint hearts.
